My first canvas!!!!

Well the other day I decided that I was going to make my first canvas.  Why?  Well Jen Starr came to our scrapbook store, Almost Heaven Scrapbooking and taught classes with Art Anthology products and Viva Decor products.  Let's just say that I was instantly hooked on them and love them so much!!!!

So when my son came back from firefighter camp last week, there were some awesome pictures and it hit me that was the canvas I was going to do.  I could see it in my head before I even started on it and was so excited to get started on it.  And I was lucky!  I had all  the colors that I needed to do the canvas.  I am so excited to share it.  I really enjoyed doing this and I hope that my son will treasure it forever.

So here we go, grab a cup of coffee or something else to drink, put your feet up and I will share with you what I did.

First off I covered the canvas board with Claudine Hellmuth's Black Gesso.

After it was all covered, I dried it with my heat gun.

My next step is I covered it with Viva Decor 3D Stamp Paint in Copper.  Noticed I didn't do a complete coverage.

I then took the Viva Decor Modellier Creme in Metallic bronze and added texture all over with just a little of the black gesso still showing through.

Once again since I am so impatient, I dried it with my heat gun.

Once it was dry I then took smaller paint brushes and just placed fire looking vertical streaks with Art Anthology Sorbet in Outrageous Orange and Red Corvette in the Dimensional Glaze.

I did not let it dry this time because I wanted to add a little more color so I used the Viva Decor Pearl Pens with a paint brush to blend in a little more.  I used Light Green and Sunny Yellow.

Then I added just a few touch of Art Anthology's Imperial Sorbet.  I think poured some to Tim Holtz's Distress Stain into a mini mister and sprayed the outer edges of the canvas.

This is what it looked like after it dried.

I then printed out two pictures that I was going to use on this.  One in an 8x10 and the other in a 5x7.  I tore around the edges of each pictures and then took a lit candle and burned around all of the edges.  Was a mess, but it was worth it and I didn't burn my house down, lol.  I then applied the fire picture with Modge Podge and then did the same with Cody's picture on top of the fire one.

Now here is where I had to be patient so i let it dry overnight.

I found a title that I loved in the Silhouette Store and knew immediately that I had to do the Drunken Scotch technique on it.

First you cover generously with Diamond Glaze, I am sure that any dimensional glaze that dries clear would work but Diamond Glaze is my all time favorite!

While still wet I applied dots of mixative randomly.

Then do the same thing with the alcohol inks.  You will see how they spread in the glue.

Once you get the look you want, then start heating it with your heat gun.  Keep it up until it starts bubbling.  Let it bubble and don't pop the bubbles.  Keep doing this for just a little bit, just don't let it burn.  The bubbles will shrink when cooled down and dry.

These are the letters and flames after all done.

From the side you can really see the texture.

And the completed piece.  I will get some mat board to mat it and then have my husband make a frame for it.

You can contact Beverly at Almost Heaven Scrapbooking Store  or call her at the store (304) 925-7272 and order all of the products that I used on this canvas.  I hope you enjoyed reading how I made this as much as I did making it.
